LIVING WITH MOTHER EARTH....Earth Sheltered, not the home you grew up in.....
For sure, one of the most Environment Friendly homes in America.....

Some newspaper articles called our place "one of a kind"  Maybe so, but that over used cliche' has been used as a way to describe everything from bowling balls to used cars….In recent years the real estate industry has probably been the most guilty culprit…

Check the local real estate advertisements   and you will surely find ads that include the words…"One of a Kind", Must See...... Your curiosity is aroused,  so you drive across town to see this special house, only to find that it looks exactly like the house down your street.......Definitly not this house

So,  if  you’re a little skeptical as you are reading this page,  it’s understandable.... All we ask is that you read a couple more paragraphs and check out a few photos......

Don't forget to click "Photos" to see an extensive slideshow.

Skylite in the Fall

As you read on, please note that I am fully aware that occasionally, I drift off on subjects not directly pertaining to our house.... However, these short dissertations help to amplify my interest in saving the environment from man's endless greed, waste and total disregard for all God's gifts of nature......

That being said......The following is a blatant example of the above statement and I know it's going to generate a few rebuttal emails, but here goes.....

We are leisure, summertime boaters on Maryland's rivers. Our boat is a 21-foot trailerable 25 year old craft. Recently, while in a local waterfront restaurant, a conversation began (as boaters do). A pleasant gentleman asked "Which one is yours"?  motioning toward the many boats tied to the pier out front. I proceeded to point out ours (one of the smaller boats in sight). Soon, I realized I had been set up. He just wanted to talk about his boat. So, I stayed with the conversation against my better judgment and being a friendly guy.....I asked in return. "Where is yours?"......

"That's mine right there", pointing to a bright yellow 45-foot (or longer) cigarette type boat (search Google if you want to see a cigarette boat). He proceeded to tell me it had 50 coats of special paint that cost $200 a gallon, it has two 600 HP engines that require a special fuel and at 90 MPH it will burn a gallon of fuel in 12 seconds and it only has seats for 2 people. I almost forgot... He has to wear ear plugs to start it up. Now, I ask anyone reading this to explain to me... Is that really necessary in today's world? A closing note... This area is not a "Miami Vice" setting. It is a small county (mostly residential) river about 8 feet deep and a half a mile wide...

If telling this short story makes one person stop and think, then it was worth telling.

Our fresh spring water stocked pond and island........

If the concept of living underground still seems too far out of main stream for you,  we also understand…Not everyone likes "Surf and Turf."....

In any case, we thank you for visiting our web site and should you have a  question, comment or concern regarding our home or underground construction in general,  please feel free to contact us by e-mail or search Amazon. Com. ( books ) for copies of the books I have written on the subject.

However, If the concept intrigues you and you want to check the internet for additional information, try searching  earth homes,  earth-sheltered homes, underground homes,  geo-thermal construction or solar homes.....

Numerous articles have been written about this type of construction. Using Mother Earth as a source of security and temperature control is as old as mankind. In this present day world of High Tech everything, nothing comes close to the advantages that can be gained by using the permanent temperature of the Earth as a source of free, endless, easy to harness energy.

If you find this subject of living underground interesting, in all fairness, I want to impress one fact on you... if you need your living space to have the feel and look of an average development house, this is not for you.......

24 ft. X 16 ft. Skylite in November after 1st snowfall........

After living in this house for more than 40 years, we can truthfully say,  it has been  rewarding and  very different......

The most prominent feeling that we and our guests notice, is the constant aura of being in a secure, safe and quiet space...........

Our front door in mid October,  notice our guard dog on duty.......

Thanks for staying with us...We were hoping you would be interested enough to continue reading about our 3600 sq.ft. Experimental Home …and yes, it is totally underground an average of six feet and it has all the areas found in a conventional house.......

That includes living room, dining room,  kitchen,  2 full bath rooms,  2  half baths,  mud room,  foyer,  Master bedroom,   2 standard bedrooms,  one computer room(or 4th bed room), family room, bar, excerise room,  2 car garage,  numerous hall ways,  closets and storage .....The dog even has his own bedroom.....

Another scenario that makes this home very unusual, is the location..... Earth homes are almost always located in rural hills or mountainous areas....That’s  the natural terrain to build  such an unusual structure....Our home surely breaks that trend.

If you Google search zip code 21050,  you will see we are located in Forest Hill, Maryland....A quaint crossroads village in beautiful Harford County, Maryland.......

Look closer and you will see we are in an up-scale, planned, suburban community, convenient to everything, even the local airport and post office are within walking distance.....A far cry from the boondocks you might have envisioned.....That fact alone makes this property very unique......
